Okja (2017) 🐷
Hold your horses... or pigs?! Because we are about to start a new satirical adventure.
What you will see in this movie (if you join) is an exciting adventure and a very satirical way to address modern problems such as "animal mistreatment" in labor areas and "GMOs" with a touch of humor. PREFACE: 26 highly modified pigs are sent by Mirando corporation to qualified farmers all over the world to raise them in their own unique way; after 10 years, one pig will be chosen to get the title of "Super pig". What could go wrong? you might ask...well, stay tuned and you'll find out.
Mirando logo🤮
I hope this is not a spoiler but Mirando corporation ended up being the bad guy that acts in the place of those animal cruelty corporations with no remorse in real life. On the other happy hand, we have Mija, a young Korean girl who has been assigned the job of raising one pig along with her grandpa, years have passed and she forged a strong bond with Okja, the big pig.
Look how cute they are 💓
Animal Liberation Front members
In search of Okja's salvation, Mija meets ALF (Animal Liberation Front), an armed group whose ideals go against animal abuse and exploitation, so here we are with the enemies of the enemies, therefore, our friends. This whole fight turns into a media campaign once Lucy Mirando sees Mija as a target to cool down allegations made against the company. It is crucial to mention, that Lucy is the real target here😈
This movie is authentic, that's undeniable, but I feel like the way it was directed wasn't right. So many topics such as animal cruelty should've been approached differently, at least, in a less humoristic and more realistic way. Also, some characters like Red played by Lily Collins felt just like fillers.
Rate: 3/5
⭐⭐⭐
Good to be aware of animal rights abuses
