Spree (2020) 🤳🏻

#TheLesson

A comedy thriller, we don't see this kind of movie too much and I know, we have "Happy Death's Day" which adds a touch of sci-fi, or "Babysitter" which is much of a satanic comedy thriller. Spree is way different from the others, it's more modern (and by modern, I mean social network)

Kurt Kunkle

The movie introduces us to Kurt Kunkle, our main character and villain here. Kurt is a simple guy who ambitiously wants to rule social media and become an "influencer". To achieve his dream of going viral he is willing to do anything even if it means killing people.

His obsession with social media will lead him to slash, literally. We can tell from the very beginning that he is very passionate about being well-known, he posted some videos here and there but never got views, except for one person, Bobby BaseCamp. It is pitiable and pathetic to see Kurt try so hard but never get what he wants, not saying deserves, it is almost relatable. The crime wave fed by his irrationality occurred on a streaming shot by different devices, be they phones, security footage, and webcams.

Here are some victims

Some of the murders were perpetrated on Spree (an app similar to Uber or Lift in real life). All he did was get some passengers in and voila! the streaming magic happens. At some point, he became more irrational when he met Jessie the comedian.

I am going to stop right here, and let the rest speak by itself

The film is generally entertaining and has a unique format. In my personal opinion, I feel like there should be a bit more character development and plot consistency, but it's probably all lost because of the way it's shot.
