Firebird (2021)🛩️

It is time to talk about one of my fav genres in films; Boys' love. I am a guy who really enjoys BL films but...I've got some things to say (write) about this one in particular. So here it goes.

Let's play it🎬

The movie is set in the 1970s, during the Cold war. From the very beginning, they let us know that what we are watching is a film based on a real story about a former Soviet Union soldier and actor that went by the name of Sergey Fetisov, who also once published his memoir back in the 1990s to share with others his true love and story of courage.

This is the real Sergey Fetisov💓
(He was handsome)

The movie (I should say story) begins with a young private who's been mandatorily conscripted into military service for a specific amount of time. He certainly didn't want that but it was another time where they did not have any other choice but to serve, I mean war was ruling. Everything changed when he met Roman, a (hot) pilot that arrived at the base to literally turn Sergey's life upside down. Long story short, they increasingly started to like each other as they got to know each other well. But Sergey and Roman managed to be discrete, the reason: if they got caught, they might've gone to jail for several years and accused to be "sodomites". Fact: Being gay was a crime back then.

This is Oleg Zagorodnii, the actor who played Roman
(Gosh, he is handsome)

Enough about the handsomeness. By that time, an investigation was opened against them to find the truth about their relationship. Wary eyes kept them from going forward with their romance. Unfortunately, they had to move on with their lives, Sergey with his acting career and Roman with being a pilot in the army. Many trammels were in the way impeding the freedom they needed to live their true selves. This makes us realize how lucky we are in modern times; however, we still have some work to do. This is not over.

Look how beautiful they look, in reality, this should've been something big but it wasn't the right time for them💔

Life went on and on, but the love they created never vanished, even when they were hundreds of meters apart, the love was the same. On the other hand, Roman was "kind of" forced to marry Luisa, a typist friend of both Sergey and Roman. But even so, the love was still the same. Some knew (and wanted to know) what was going on between them and that's sh*t when obviously the intention was to hurt them. They put themselves in danger to love. That's what I call real love but apparently war and ignorance were more powerful.

I should let you guys figure out what's next so I better stop writing. But one quick note, it is hard to see how they unwittingly see themselves in a love triangle with poor Luisa.

...And those passional moments are truly gold to me.
