The banshees of Inisherin (2022) ✌🏻✂️

“I just don’t like you anymore”

The film follows Pádraic Súilleabháin and Colm Doherty’s relationship (if you can call it that🙄). It all starts with Pádraic waiting for his friend, Colm, at the pub to take some drinks as usual, but Colm doesn’t show up.

Pádraic Súilleabháin (LEFT), Colm Doherty (RIGHT)

This whole situation puzzles Pádraic and he seeks to understand what happened. What Colm just did get Pádraic spiraling: did I do something wrong to upset him? Is he sick? Is he depressed? We know right away for facts that they have been friends for years, perhaps all of their lives.

Pádraic, tired of not getting answers and being avoided by his mate since that day, faces Colm, who suddenly decided to end his friendship. The reason? he thinks Pádraic is dull. Colm realized overnight those superfluous conversations with Pádraic and the time wasted led nowhere. This decision triggers a series of dramatic events that will influence everyone in Inisherin (the fictional island). Everything just gets out of hand *wink* *wink*

Siobhán Súilleabháin (LEFT), Dominic Kearney (RIGHT)

Siobhán, Pádraic’s sister, becomes more and more conspicuous as the voice of reason among her brother and Colm. She called out for peace so many times, but it was too late when her brother also decided to break bonds, and not in a good way. On the other hand, we have Dominic who plays a simple role on the island but somehow his presence became meaningful.

The banshees of Inisherin mixes comedy and drama like no other while dealing with disappointment, loneliness, broken bonds, and anguish. The film starts kind of bright and fun, but as it proceeds through some situations it gets darker and darker to the extent of losing its innocence and comedy. The whole idea was to exalt the pride of human idiocy and show how stupid it is when man stubbornly persists in trivial enmity.
